EXTERNAL FIELDS:

External field: code = E

An "external" field is actually just a link to some file or document
or other object on your PC. You can use this field type to include
spreadsheet files, web pages, bitmaps, Adobe pdf files or anything
else that has an application on your PC that is capable of opening
that particular type of object (i.e., if you specified a pdf file
as an external field, either Adobe Reader or an equivalent program
would have to be installed on your system in order to display that
object).

You set up an external field during file design simply by entering
an "E" for the field type. Then when you're entering records and
you come to that particular field, an "Open File" dialog will pop
up allowing you to select the external object you want to link to.

For example, if you're entering records in a dBworxPE file with a
field called "Income spreadsheet", whenever you come to that field
the "Open File" dialog will display and you can navigate to where
your spreadsheet files are stored and click on the one that goes
with this record.

If you're entering or editing a record and come to an External
field that already has a file name in it, you can right-click on
the field and dBworx will open the appropriate file.

NOTE: If you want to link to an entire directory rather than a
particular file, key in the path to that directory as the External
field value. When you right click on the field, dBworxPE will
open a view of the directory and you can select which file you
want to look at.
